AudioCodes (Nasdaq:AUDC), a leading provider of converged voice solutions that enable enterprises and service providers to transition to all-IP voice networks, today announced that it is enhancing its MobilityPLUS solution, offering a new mobile VoIP solution with superior voice quality that is designed to overcome the challenges of call handovers between WiFi and cellular networks.

Multi-Service Operators (MSOs) are deploying public WiFi hotspots to provide free wireless broadband to their customers. According to the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, more than 200,000 WiFi hotspots have been deployed in the United States to extend the reach of MSOs and provide mobile phone service for their customers at attractive prices. As the trend to incorporate WiFi becomes increasingly popular, there is a critical need to ensure a smooth handover between the WiFi and cellular networks. Industry analysts have claimed that in such a heterogeneous network environment, WiFi would be used 80% of the time and 3G would be used 20% of the time.

The new enhancement, combining AudioCodes’ MobilityPLUS mobile VoIP and Mediant Session Border Controller (SBC) solutions, offers MSOs the ability to service these heterogeneous networks (WiFi and 3G) while achieving seamless handover. Leveraging advanced SBC capabilities and leading mobile VoIP technology allows for a high quality, uninterrupted call when moving between the different networks.

AudioCodes’ portfolio of SBCs scale to 25,000 concurrent sessions, covering large enterprises and service provider’s needs. All AudioCodes SBCs run the same software, with uniform interoperability, security, media handling functionality and operational model. AudioCodes SBCs address multiple SBC segments – SIP Trunk, Hosted and Access services for wireline, cellular and hybrid deployments. AudioCodes SBCs feature integrated QoE monitoring and dynamic voice optimization for high voice quality experience. The entire SBC family is uniformly and centrally managed by AudioCodes’ One Voice Operation Center, a holistic life-cycle management system.

AudioCodes prides itself on being at the cutting edge of mobile VoIP trends and technology,” stated Zeev Lerner, AudioCodes Vice President, Mobility. “Combining our SBC technology with the MobilityPLUS mobile VoIP solution enables us to provide a needed solution for MSOs and other service providers who seek to offer cost effective and high quality mobile VoIP services, leveraging the growing coverage of WiFi networks.

AudioCodes will be presenting its high-quality mobile VoIP solution at the CTIA Mobile Week event, September 9-11, in Las Vegas, Nevada in meeting room #7400. AudioCodes will also be featuring VocaNOM, a cloud-driven voice communication app for businesses that allows quick, simple and friendly voice-based dialing and routing.
