Interview with Positron Telecom: Asterisk PBX on a card?

We recently spoke with Richard McGravie, CEO of Positron Telecom.  Below is a summary of some of the things we discussed. Listen to the podcast to hear Richard elaborate on some of these questions and learn what sets Positron apart, in spite of them being a relatively new player in this space. VoIPon: What makes a Positron card different than those of the current market incumbents, such as those made by Sangoma and Digium for example? Richard McGravie, CEO of Positron Telecom (RM): We embed Asterisk on the card itself. This means that users no longer have to spend time to pull an Asterisk install together (save time). The competition just makes line card interfaces which are bound to the application via a driver. If the application changes or you want to move to a new application you can’t do it without development. Positron boards don’t need a driver as we can process VoIP (SIP) traffic directly. Because we are a standalone system that only requires power from the PC, we can be installed into any operating system environment (more flexible / wider market). We are the only PBX solution that functions well within a virtualized environment such as VMWARE (green offering). We have a built in scalable architecture because boards can communicate over Ethernet without additional drivers (redundant capable) most of all because the interface is SIP the CPU...

Grandstream Networks Introduces Two New High Definition/Low Light SIP Video Surveillance Cameras

Grandstream Networks announced yesterday the release of two new CMOS IP surveillance cameras. The GXV3601_HD (720P high definition) and GXV3601_LL (low light) add to the functionality and versatility of Grandstream’s IP video surveillance portfolio and are said to provide exceptional visual clarity with high definition and under low light conditions. The GXV3601_LL is designed to capture and stream high quality real time video under low light conditions (as low as 0.05Lux) and at up to 30 frames per second with full D1(720×480) or VGA (640×480) resolution. Both GXV3601_HD and GXV3601_LL support H.264 (a more efficient advanced compression technology than MPEG4 or Motion JPEG), integrated PoE and microphone, comprehensive peripheral interfaces, embedded video...

Learn more about the New Pika WARP Enterprise: Interview with Maarten Kronenburg, Pika Technologies EMEA Managing Director

Last week, we covered the launch of the Pika WARP appliance in our blog post: Pika WARP Enterprise to Help VARs & System Integrators Bring Customized Voice Applications to Market Faster. Today we’re talking with Maarten Kronenburg from Pika about this new product and what else is in store for Pika. Thanks for joining us Maarten. VoIPon:  We’ve heard a lot of good things about the Pika WARP appliance. Can you please tell the VoIPon VoIP Uncovered listeners in your words, what makes the Pika appliance stand out against the many other IP PBXs in the market? Maarten Kronenburg, Managing Director EMEA, Pika Technologies (MK): Well, I think, the biggest, there are two biggest differentiators that differentiate Pika from the other devices out in the market. The first one is the way we treat our channel partners. If you go out on the internet and buy an IP PBX out on the internet, it usually is a standard, off-the-shelf machine with a standard feature set. Well the Pika appliance allows you, the channel partner, to modify that last bit, to add that last specific feature that you need, that you want, or that you know your customers are asking for. So, really the role of the channel partner with the Pika appliance is different than what you would expect with a standard IP PBX. And secondly, um, there is...
